Reports to - Improvement Clinical Director, Care Quality Improvement Directorate


Tenure - Fixed term until 30 June 2026


Hours - Average time commitment is equivalent to half a day per week


Location - Applicants will need to be based within the UK and will be expected to work flexibly to meet the requirements of the role. Much of the post holder's work may be delivered from their own location remotely with an expectation around attendance at in person meetings at the RCP office in London or Liverpool and nationwide where appropriate.

The Falls and Fragility Fracture Audit Programme (FFFAP) is a high profile national clinical audit programme that is commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) on behalf of NHS England and the Welsh Government, comprising three workstreams:

  • National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD)
  • Fracture Liaison Service Database (FLS-DB)
  • National Audit of Inpatient Falls (NAIF)


The FFFAP aims to improve the quality of care, services and clinical outcomes for people following a fragility fracture or an inpatient fall.

We deliver dynamic and responsive support to clinical and service leaders by appropriate design, focus and dissemination of audit results.

Our work supports local and national service improvement in the quality of care and patient experience.

We work in partnership with the FFFAP Patient and Carer Panel to embed the perspectives and experience of patients and the public across the programme.


The Senior Clinical Lead will work in partnership with the Programme Manager to ensure that the programme is delivered in line with contractual obligations and within legislative frameworks, seeking to ensure maximum use of outputs to benefit patients and improve service performance.


FFFAP's vision is to increase emphasis on delivery of online improvement resources and a healthcare improvement plan which can clearly measure impact.

The Senior Clinical Lead will lead and develop the FFFAP improvement strategy, chairing the FFFAP improvement advisory group and overseeing implementation of the strategy.

Application and appointments process
The average commitment is equivalent to approximately one PA/half a day per week.

The time commitment varies across the annual reporting cycle, with the expectation that the post holder will negotiate time for meetings and duties during the working week.

Subject to final contracting, the appointment will be from 1 July 2023 until 30 June 2026 and will be remunerated up to a maximum of £12,000 per year.
