Shift Team Leader - Power Station

Buckinghamshire

£61,000 - rising to £64,000 after training (HV)


Alecto Recruitment is looking to hear from experienced Shift Team Leaders and Shift Managers interested in making the move to a Power Station in Buckinghamshire as Shift Manager supervising the operations teams.


Main duties of this role include responsibility for all staff, contractors and visitors on site, minimisation of impact to the environment and operating the site in an efficient and effective manner.


Role Duties

  • SHEQ
  • Role combines elements of SHEQ and operations including:
  • Responsible for personal safety and all personnel under their authority and others who may be affected by the company's activities.
  • Understand and implement SHEQ policy.
  • Ensure all staff know their responsibilities and are equipped to do so.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments.
  • Conduct Aspects and Impacts analyses.
  • Ensure accident/incident and near miss reporting procedures are understood and complied with and assist in accident investigations.
  • Ensure all personnel are suitably trained/competent to carry out the prescribed tasks and all necessary licences/certificates of competence are in force.
  • Ensure adherence to Environmental Permit.
  • Reprimand staff for failing to discharge SHEQ responsibilities.
  • Operational
  • Provide leadership and direction to operations team.
  • Being site control person, HV, LV and mechanical SAP in line with plant safety rules.
  • Work to develop and improve safe systems of work.
  • Reduce environmental impact of site operations with aim of always protecting the environment.
  • Reporting and investigating incidents, accidents and near misses.
  • Leading operational improvement activities (safety, training, work instruction, continuous improvement).
  • Analysing losses and incidents to reduce likelihood of reoccurrence.
  • Developing ideas and solutions to improve operational performance.
  • Estimating material requirements and placing timely orders.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating day to day permit requirements and operational activities (must be SAP).
  • Preparation of operational strategy to ensure it aligns with overall plan and requirements.
  • Controlling contractors to ensure they operate in line with Safe System of Work.
  • Assisting Operations Manager in their absence.
  • Managing Shift Rota with Shift Managers.
  • Any other activities as designated by Operations Manager.

Applicant Profile

  • Minimum HNC in Engineering or technical qualification/operational experience equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience ideally in a steam powered power plant or power generation facility.
  • Good understanding of all HSE aspects is fundamental. NEBOSH or IOSH qualified is preferable.
  • Knowledge and experience of thermal power plant process, permit and safety systems, HV switching and switchgear, steam cycle chemistry, performance monitoring, reading technical drawings.
  • SAP experience is essential.
