The newly created Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) will spur stronger growth, better jobs, and bold new discoveries.
We have a clear mission set by the Prime Minister to ensure the UK is the most innovative economy in the world and a science and technology superpower.
Our responsibilities include:
- Positioning the UK at the forefront of global scientific and technological advancement;
- Driving innovations that change lives and sustain economic growth;
- Delivering talent programmes, physical and digital infrastructure and regulation to support our economy, security and public services;
- R&D funding.
The department brings together 7 key technologies - quantum, artificial intelligence, engineering biology, semiconductors, future telecoms, life sciences, and green technologies - to grow the economy, create jobs, and solve major challenges such as energy security, inequalities, and net zero.

Person specification:Technology policy is at the centre of HMG's agenda, and quantum technologies are a priority technology. The forthcoming Quantum Strategy will articulate this and set out the actions that HMG needs to take to ensure we are a leading quantum nation. This includes setting up a dedicated crossHMG team to lead the work, the Office for Quantum (OfQ).
The Office Lead will be responsible for coordinating cross-Whitehall and cross-industry engagement for OfQ, and supporting delivery of the National Quantum Strategy.
OfQ will sit within DSIT, in the Technologies and Innovative Regulation directorate, but be made up from individuals from across HMG.
The team will identify, build and realise the opportunities of the nascent quantum sector for the benefit of UK prosperity, security and global influence.

- Coordinating the Office's cross-Whitehall engagement;
- Coordinating Governance for a variety of Boards between industry, academics and Government;
- Establishing the Government's Quantum Technology communication and briefing hub;
- Establishing a healthy culture for the Office, adopting a leadership position to ensure all staff can thrive;
