Laboratory Administrator
Permanent, full time


Location:
St Albans, AL2


The Laboratory Administrator is a key role within the business with respect to the efficient running of the laboratory with respect to sample receipt, customer and supplier liaison, general organisation including purchasing and invoicing, and support with health, safety and welfare responsibilities.


Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the smooth operation of the office on a daytoday basis.
  • Assisting laboratory management with any administrative requirements including:
  • booking in samples into the Sample Register (MS Excel), and sorting them into boxes ready for preparation;
- contacting customers when there is a query with an order;
- carrying out typing or computer generation of routine documents;
- ordering and managing supplies e.g. office consumables, chemicals and equipment
- preparing invoices and liaising with the Group Company Financial Controller;
- sending invoices to Customers. Chasing for payment as necessary.

  • Undertaking reception duties, including:
- receiving visitors, maintaining visitor records and the provision of refreshments;
- receiving and dispatching post and parcels by mail and courier, and maintaining records.

  • Supporting laboratory management with health, safety and welfare responsibilities including:
  • controlling and issuing of approved Personal Protective Equipment;
- maintaining the premises' welfare facilities including managing the appointed cleaner;
- control and issue of fobs & keys, and day-to-day control of the security system;
- co-ordinating fire prevention procedures;
- co-ordinating electrical testing (5 yearly and routine PAT testing);
- leading inductions for new employees;
- inducting subcontractors working at Unit
  • Ad hoc duties as required.

Skills:

  • Able to pay attention to detail and accuracy (essential)
  • Selfmotivated and organised professional
  • Ability to work as part of a teams as well as independently in order to meet customer deadlines
  • Excellent communicator
  • IT literate (MS Word and MS Excel)
  • An interest in science would be advantageous.

Hours of Work :
with 30 minutes for lunch, Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).
