About the Role


Trafford Council is looking to appoint a career graded Senior Democratic Support Officer to join its Governance Team on a permanent basis.

The post holder will contribute to the important work of delivering the Council's Governance Functions.


As part of the Governance Service, you will help lead the delivery of its core services/requirements in particular, its Executive/Scrutiny Functions, along with other Committees.

You will arrange and minute public meetings and administer the Forward Plan.


This excellent opportunity would suit an experienced Democratic Officer with Committee experience who is looking to focus and progress their career in Democratic Services.

This opportunity will allow you to work alongside and learn from an experienced Democratic Services Officer (Senior Democratic Services Officer)


You will be motivated and enthusiastic, able to demonstrate both recent experience of working in this field and detailed, up to date knowledge of the relevant legislation.

You will be willing to develop your knowledge and understanding of Regulations, standards and best practices.

You will be an effective communicator, have good presenting skills and have an excellent record of persuading and influencing internal/external stakeholders to achieve the desired outcome.


As part of the Governance Services team, you will support the delivery of its core services: Committees, Scrutiny, School Appeals and Elections.

As this is a senior post you will be expected to advise and support your colleagues.

You will provide support to elected Members and colleagues in the Council.

This will include organising and supporting Committees, researching issues and preparing reports and you will work with Council colleagues and partners in other organisations.

The role will frequently involve attendance at evening meetings, of which some of these will be in person and some will be held virtually, thus permitting working from home.
