The Operations Specialist will support the Head of AIML operations and the AIML Director as they work with the AIML leadership to do what it takes to mobilise R&D's people, time, and resources for maximum patient impact.

This role will be involved in looking for ways create solutions where there are gaps in processes, embed efficient ways of working to allow AIML project teams to focus on the highest value add activities.


This role will also be working with our external data team so experience with scientific database products (e.g., Elsevier) and scientific journals is a plus.


This role will be a part of our global AIML team (based in London Kings Cross) will be a part of a team whose aim is to accelerate medicine development for patients.


In this role you will:

Supporting the wider operations team in achieving the following, which could include but not limited to:

  • Planning team meetings, including agendas, actions, key participants, and driving High Performing Teams behaviours,
  • Locating gaps in processes, developing processes and process improvements,
  • End to end business system ownership of scientific databases and software as products, liaising with tech on the interface between the vendor and GSK,
  • Support in vendor contracts renewals, vendor oversight, license renewals, CDA's, and studentship agreements,
  • Facilitate ongoing evaluation of portfolios of work, reviewing GSK's needs and alternatives using key metrics. This could include but is not limited to studentships, grants and donations and external data.
  • Support financial processes,
  • Support the communication and engagement plan activities,
  • Perform adhoc analysis, develop strategic options, and provide recommendations to enable informed decision making,
  • Drive small business transformation projects that impact AIML

Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor's degree as a minimum, ideally scientific or computer science/software related
  • Pharma, CRO and/or Academic Research Organisation experience
  • Scientific and operational credibility with evidence of delivery in an R&D environment, including effective matrix working
  • Demonstrates capability to proactively identify and resolves issues with mínimal oversight
  • Must be curious and able to engage at all levels within and external to the line in order to create a rich and alternative perspective to the teams that they support.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Master's degree or PhD, ideally scientific or computer science/software related
  • AIML knowledge and experience
  • Resultsorientation and drive to set and reach challenging goals; high standards for performance
