Johnsons Wellfield have an opportunity for a Head Heavy Plant Fitter to join our busy and friendly team in Huddersfield on a full time, permanent basis.


Johnsons Wellfield operates an established Dimension Stone and highly sophisticated stone production facility from its Crosland Hill Quarries in Huddersfield which is part of the progressive family-owned
Myers Group.


Renowned for the supply of premium block stone for finished masonry and natural stone paving products supplied across the UK.

With an excellent local presence in the aggregates sector and an inert landfill, we are looking for a self-motivated individual to join our team at Crosland Hill Quarries.

Main duties and key responsibilities will include:

  • Keeping track of Plant servicing schedule and carry out when necessary.
  • Source and ordering parts needed to carry out maintenance.
  • Ensure maintenance records are completed and logged.
  • Carry out inspections and repairs to plant and machinery to the required standard.
  • To respond in a timely manner to requests for maintenance, repairs and inspections.
  • Comply with all company and Site Health and Safety rules.
  • Provide updates of work progression and communicate any unforeseen problems which may cause delays in a timely manner to allow for planning around such problems.
  • Take an active part in all training sessions required by and provided by the company.
  • Work within a team, share knowledge and workload with other team members.
  • Carry out all work to comply with both health and safety standards and engineering best practice set by the company.
  • Liaise with operational Supervisors and Managers.
  • Ensure all work is documented and recorded using the systems provided and report any system problems /failings to enable improvements in the recording and implementing of tasks to be made.
  • Carry out supervision and training of apprentices as and when required.
  • Carry out supervision of contractors on site as and when required.
  • Any other reasonable duties which may be required by the Company from time to time, as instructed by or under the direction of your immediate supervisor.

Preferred skills, experience and attributes:


  • Fully qualified mechanical or motor vehicle engineer & preferably hold a City & Guilds part 1 & 2 or equivalent in the required field.
  • Able to carry out fault diagnosis to the required standard.
  • IT Skills (obtaining parts/ service records)
  • Have a suitable fitness level to conduct work appropriately.
  • Able to prioritise and carry out a diverse range of tasks.
  • Must possess working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics and mechanical principles relating to petrol engines, diesel engines and power transmission systems.
  • Maintain knowledge of the required skills to undertake the role.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Must possess good time management and organisational skills.
  • Must be selfmotivated and have the ability to solve problems at source.
  • Must have a positive attitude and clear focus.
  • Must be sufficiently mobile and flexible to work beyond the call of duty to achieve results.
