Recycling Education Officer - Wakefield

(Maternity Cover)

Salary:
up to £26,000 per annum


37.5 hours per week


We are currently recruiting for a temporary Recycling Officer for approximately 1 year maternity cover to be based at our Wakefield PFI in South Kirkby reporting to the Education Manager.


The post holder will be based at the educational facility at South Kirkby or out on site or locations where events are being held.

The post holder is expected to work across a number of Wakefield residential areas so access to their own vehicle would be advantageous.


You will be responsible for supporting, developing and assisting in the delivery of educational and recycling events and programmes which encourage behavioural change and increase levels of good quality recycling, reduce contamination and minimise waste.


Your key responsibilities:


  • Assisting the Education Manager to develop, deliver and manage the educational programmes and resources for schools and community groups at the South Kirkby Education Centre
  • Developing and delivering targeted highquality communications, interaction and information across a range of activities aimed at encouraging and enabling behaviours around reduce, reuse, recycle and recovery in the Community
  • Accurately maintaining and evaluating sensitive information, databases and performance statistics in a confidential manner
  • Producing information, providing advice and guidance to residents face to face at the door step and at roadshows, events and over the telephone
  • Supporting a range of behavioural change campaigns and waste minimisation initiatives by flexibly delivering specific activities across the Wakefield District
  • Engaging the public in recycling, encouraging interaction and supporting how the learning is passed on and recycling best practice
  • Ensuring health and safety standards are always achieved and child protection policies followed

  • Strong customer service skills and ability to deal with the public in a positive and tactful manner, even in difficult situations
  • Ability to present persuasive written and verbal information to a wide variety of audiences
  • Experience of working with community groups, schools and volunteers to build influential relationships and following health and safety regulations of working with these groups
  • An understanding of the role of engaging communities to enable behavioural shift and ability to influence waste and recycling behavioural change
  • Ability to coordinate educational events at the Education Centre or other locations including information stall, presentations and practical workshops
  • Ability to demonstrate good ICT skills and use of digital media in line with corporate policy
