That means really getting to grips with the inner workings of a company and findingways to help them - whether that's working on taxing technicalities or devising strategies to help them fulfil their commercial potential.


The Role

As a Tax Trainee within the R&D Team, you will be:

  • Participating in the Team's internal technical training programme with the objective of having a strong understanding of R&D Tax legislation and its interpretation on completion.
  • Conducting preliminary research in preparation for client workshops and attending these sessions to support technical interviews and financial data gathering.
  • Assessing and interpreting technical information gathered during workshops to draft the technical reports to support the R&D activity.
  • Gaining sector knowledge by proactively working with a wide variety of clients this will allow you to gain an understanding of a wide variety of innovative technologies across the fields of science and technology.

Skills & Qualities You Will Have to Succeed:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and logical, problem-solving midset
  • Strong numerical ability and great attention to detail
  • A genuine interest and curiosity in Software, Science, Technology & Innovation.
  • The ability to actively listen to others and ensure that they are understood.

Our Tax Trainees come from a variety of different academic and cultural backgrounds.


Please note that our tax training programme is available to both school leavers and graduates, but a degree is not essential.

Entry Requirements


We do not require Tax Trainees to have a business or financial background, but a genuine interest and/or degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Bio-medical or Computer Science is preferred.

However, we do ask that applicants for our Taxtrainee programme have achieved or are predicted to achieve
at least 112 UCAS points(based on the new 2017 UCAS Tariff) from 3 A-Levels, or equivalent, all achieved during the same exam year.

At least 2 of these A-levels must either be within or a combination of Sciences or Advanced Mathematics, or Computer Technology.

This excludesGeneral Studies.

We also ask that graduate applicants have either achieved or are working to achieve
at least a 2:1 at university.
