LOCATION:

JOB PURPOSE:
| To provide 2:1 support for a 12-year-old male child with Autism, a significant learning disability, limited verbal communication and English as a second language

Main Duties

  • Two support workers/enablers are required to provide 2:1 support for a 12 year old young man as outlined below. There will be support required with personal care. Experience of supporting children/young adults who are non verbal with Autism, challenging behavior would be preferred.
  • To enable this child to access leisure activities within the local community, including swimming, going to the beach and visiting the park.
  • The child can become very anxious and distressed in busy places, which can affect his behaviour, and he requires a high level of supervision to keep him safe. He has limited awareness of risk and full support will be required with this.
  • His first language is Arabic however he has very few familiar or contextual words in Arabic or English. He makes use of visual prompts such as PECs and communication books in school and continuation of this would be preferred. Family can support with understanding in the first instance

Hours

  • 5 hours per week.

Rates of pay
- £10.82 per hour.

  • Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year prorata.
  • Out of pocket expenses to be paid by employer.

Person Specification

  • The successful applicants must:
  • Have experience and a positive understanding about children who have disabilities
  • Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs
  • Have experience of working with children who can display challenging behaviour and be able to respond positively, sensitively and effectively should situations arise
  • Have knowledge and experience of working with children who have very limited verbal communication skills
  • Have a high degree of initiative
  • Be punctual and reliable as the child cannot be left unsupervised
  • Be flexible
  • Have a happy, positive and caring nature
  • Respect confidentiality

Car driver preferred and must be insured for business use.
