Job Summary:

Lab based leadership role within the Core Technology team at our drug discovery facilities in High Peak. In addition to management, mentoring and development of scientists, the position involves leading the production of cell microarray slides.

The slides are used by High Peak screening teams to screen a range of client samples from antibodies through to small molecules.

You will be involved with cross site working and optimisation of the Retrogenix Cell Microarray Technology.


Main tasks:


Line management activities:

  • Daily management of 23 direct reports (technical staff) in accordance with company directions and policies.
  • Ensure team are delivering efficiently, achieving production metrics and producing high quality results.
  • Proactive management of performance and development of direct reports.
  • Mentor and coach direct reports in achieving their potential and advancing their careers.
  • Ensure that all relevant reports operate in a safe manner at all times and ensure compliance with CRL sitebased safety and compliance guidelines.

Production team activities:

  • After training, demonstrate competent use of the microarray spotting technology to produce high quality microarray slides.
  • Work independently and alongside team members to ensure the output of the production team meets the demand of the screening teams.
  • Work alongside Group Leader to ensure metrics are achieved.
  • Effective decision making for self and team members.
  • Responsible for solving complex technology issues that arise within the Core Technology team.
  • Perform technology development projects as required with focus on production quality and output.
  • Maintain clear, uptodate records/lab books.
  • Assist in ensuring smooth, seamless running of the laboratory.
Essential skills

  • PhD qualified within a biology related discipline or BSc/MSc qualified within a biology related discipline with experience in a labbased environment.
  • Drug development experience in a CRO/biotech/pharma setting.
  • Experience in the areas of molecular and/or cell biology.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to mentor others.
  • Good attention to detail, organisational and time management skills.
  • A dynamic, cando attitude and a flexible approach to problem solving.
  • The ability to act proactively and make decisions for self and others.
  • A commitment to personal development to enable future career progression.
  • Experience of line managing small teams.
  • Practical cell culture experience.
Desirable skills

  • Experience in microarray technology.
  • Experience in DNA transfection protocols
  • Support for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proven ability to work to tight deadlines in a production environment.
