About the Role:


Training, Compliance & safety Officer

Purpose & Scope:


To provide support and guidance to the management team to minimise/remove risk of accidents, work related-illnesses and injuries across the farming base and to maintain high standards of health and safety throughout the scope of operations.

To ensure compliance to external regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures. Responsible for identifying employee training and development needs and planning, organizing and overseeing appropriate training.


Operating Environment:


  • Farming Base/Remote
  • We operate a 24/7 business and therefore there may be times you will need to work outside of regular hours

You will be based at Hereford however due to business needs there will be a requirement to travel to other sites outside of the Hereford region.

Main Accountabilities and Duties:


  • Establish and maintain a thorough risk assessment and task procedure management system
  • Review and maintain existing operating procedures and practices to make recommendations for improvements where applicable
  • Each farm will have an annual inspection with yourself
- to be fully documented, communicated and actions added to Focus Safety App. Support to be given to the relevant managers resolving the actions where applicable or required.

  • Ensure all farm managers are reporting through the Focus Safety App including, accidents, incidents and near misses
  • Support area managers with incident and accident investigations
  • Manage and facilitate external audits
  • Willis Blue, NFU, EA. Support area and farm management team in achieving audits in agreed frequencies.
  • Support with new employee onboarding and attend new employee probation reviews
  • Conduct new and refresher respiratory face fit testing for employees (training will be provided)
  • Deliver mandatory Poultry passport training courses
  • Attend operational meetings as requested
  • Ensure records are maintained and training refreshers are undertaken in a timely fashion
  • Design and deliver topic specific 'tool box talks'
  • Complete employee competency reviews annually
  • Meet with other site safety, compliance and training officers regularly to share best practice, knowledge and experiences.

  • Ensure information is treated as confidential.
  • Participate and promote the Avara Vision and Values.
  • To comply with and promote all Avara policies and procedures
  • Ensure that the Health and Safety Policies, Standard Operating Procedures are properly managed and adhered to at all times
  • Ensure that food safety, integrity, legality and quality applies at all times and in all areas of our business
  • Ensure biosecurity processes and procedures are adhered to (where appropriate) to protect birds from disease and maintain food safety.
  • Ensure that the training and, development needs of any subordinate staff are identified and addressed, and contribute generally to the development of an overall learning culture within the company.
  • Ensure that delivery of agreed SLA standards is maintained where appropriate.
  • Participate as necessary in appropriate shifts and oncall duty rotas, if applicable.
  • Other duties within the general scope of the post may be required from time to time.
  • The duties of the post and job description will be regularly reviewed by the line manager.
