We have an exciting new opportunity for a highly experienced and self-motivated Executive Officer to join the Vice Chancellors Office team at Birmingham City University.


The university is seeking to appoint an Executive Officer to provide professional, efficient, and confidential support to our Vice Chancellor.

The Executive Officer will be responsible for ensuring that the VC's office operates efficiently and effectively by providing first class support to the VCO Senior Team whilst ensuring the smooth management of a complex and challenging schedule.

Key Tasks include:

  • Managing the office of the Vice-Chancellor's and coordinate its workflow and processes
  • Research and collate detailed briefing packs for the VC on policy, practice and people.
  • Regularly reviewing systems and procedures within the VC's Office and introduce improvements as and when required.
  • Supporting the professional development of the team in change management and strategic direction
  • Optimising productivity through effective diary management
  • Planning, arranging and attending meetings.
  • Notetaking, collating and distributing meeting papers.
  • Acting as gate keeper and first point of contact
  • Filtering phone calls, dealing with postal enquiries and ad hoc requests.
  • Coordinating business travel and accommodation
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations
  • Building and maintaining cooperative relationships with key stakeholders
  • Detailed knowledge of the Higher Education Sector and Policy Issues
  • An honours degree
  • Experience of working with this level of seniority
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of corporate governance.
  • Strong organisational skills to multitask, with an ability to prioritise an often conflicting workload
  • Ability to undertake research incorporating detailed analysis of complex data.
  • Polished communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Confidence to liaise with staff at the highest level.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
