Description

The SDA have exciting opportunities for experienced systems integration engineering professionals to join our team at MOD Abbey Wood, Filton, Bristol.

You will integrate with teams of highly skilled professionals, getting up-close and personal with complexsubmarine systems to oversee engineering challenges unique to this industry, whilst supporting the Royal Navy and significantly impacting project/programme success.


As senior member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to be an authority on combat systems delivery, core security and engineering coordination of these complex capabilities.

You will operate as deputy to the chief engineer at lead level, engaging withdelivery projects across wider SDA teams to provide specialist insight on the needs of the portfolio.

By engaging with engineering and programme leaders from across the combat system enterprise, you will ensure robust and coherent systems engineering approachesare developed and combat systems equipments are rolled out across the UK submarine flotilla.

Due to the nature of this work, working with stakeholders is critical to success.

You will therefore be required to uphold strong and productive relationships with senior SDA stakeholders and be the intelligent customer to UK industry partners within thenuclear enterprise.

About the role
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Development, maintenance and delivery of the Engineering Management Plan (EMP) interacting with other functions to ensure coherent planning.
  • Delivery of engineering products / services as set out in the EMP, including managing the acquisition safety aspects.
  • Operational direction and delivery of engineering activity in area of responsibility as defined in the assignment specification or objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership related to own specialist area to solve complex problems with innovative solutions to support improved performance and enhance capability.
  • Interface with industry as the intelligent customer on projects and help DE&S and industry understand technical risks.
  • Provide governance, assurance and advice on complex projects and portfolios in own area of expertise to guide and influence senior leaders, scientists and decision makers.

Person specification

  • Member of a relevant Professional Engineering/Science Institute or equivalent body.
  • Relevant Level 6 (or higher) qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience of providing technical advice at a senior level and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes in multidisciplinary projects
