An exciting new opportunity has arisen within the Information Services Directorate for a Lead Specialist to support NHS Wales in the use of data to improve the delivery of patient care and services.


The posts will play a key role in maximizing the potential of the national data collected by DHCW, contributing to enhanced data analysis to support the information needs within each of the Directorates in our organisation.


The roles will support a culture of continuous improvement, service development, and digital transformation in the organisation by developing and taking forward the requirements for the Single Cancer Pathway Programme.


We are looking for highly motivated individuals, someone who enjoys working as part of a team and can demonstrate a commitment to delivering a high-quality service.

The successful applicants will need to be able to work under pressure, be responsive to fast moving deadlines and maintain positive, constructive relationships with a wide range of individuals, and organisations, and be able to prioritise their own work.

This post is fixed term/secondment until march 2024 due to meet the needs of the service.

Experience of working of the NHS and clinical knowledge would be advantageous, however practical experience and knowledge of the following would be particularly desirable:

  • SQL proficiency
  • The ability to build comprehensive Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) routines
  • Database administration, maintenance and monitoring skills
  • Managing Stakeholder requirements, expectations
  • Delivering technically innovative solutions in a timely manner
  • Comprehensive documentation skills
  • A champion of Data Warehouse methodologies and bestpractice.
  • Problem solving ability
  • Proficient communication ability (verbal and written)
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Depending on experience we may offer the post as a Band 6 Lead Specialist.

If appointed as an Information Officer, progression to the next pay band is dependent on meeting an agreed set of competency criteria managed through Personal Development Review (PDR).

Once those criteria are met you will automatically progress to Band 6 Lead Specialist.
