Description
Hackney is one of Britain's most exciting and fastest-changing boroughs. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself.

The Role:

We are looking to recruit a Principal Electoral Services Officer (Registration) who will support the Electoral Registration Manager in the management of all electoral registration functions including new responsibilities in relation to voter ID.

We are a forward thinking team with an open and friendly working environment.

The way we manage and deliver our work depends upon the people who work with us to achieve change and deliver results.

A team player is essential in this role and will join a busy, high performing elections team that is committed to providing efficient and first class electoral services.

You will assist in compiling an accurate electoral register, implementing statutory procedures to deliver Individual Electoral Registration, including coordination of the personal canvass, leading to the accurate and complete compilation of the Register of Electors within the prescribed timescales.

You will manage the recruitment, organisation, supervision and delivery of training for temporary canvass staff.

The position also involves supporting the Electoral Services Manager in managing the work of the team in undertaking the organisation of elections and referendums, updating of absent vote data, as well as the administration of the property database, polling places and boundary/polling district reviews.

When required you will act as a Deputy Returning Officer for elections.

About You:

You should be experienced in electoral registration and organising elections and have extensive knowledge of electoral law as well as holding the Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) Certificate or diploma.

You will be self-motivated and resilient and able to work under pressure in a supportive environment.

You will be confident in dealing with others, whatever their seniority including elected representatives and other stakeholders. With an ability to work with precision, you should also demonstrate strong IT and data interrogation skills.

If you are someone with drive, enthusiasm and a positive attitude, who thrives on working in a busy and challenging environment we would love to hear from you.

In return, we offer the opportunity to work flexibly with an interesting workload at the heart of the democratic process.

The ability to work independently, using your own initiative, planning, prioritising and producing work of a high standard under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Ideally you will have a good knowledge of the Civica Xpress Electoral Management Software, but a knowledge of another software system is equally acceptable.

The post holder must be flexible and will be required to work additional hours, including some evenings, weekends and bank holidays with restrictions on leave during elections and peak canvass periods.

At Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people and we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive.

We seek people with ambition, creativity and commitment to ensure our economic growth creates opportunities to transform the lives of our residents.

The recruitment process is anonymous. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs.

Interview date:
Week commencing 27 March 2023

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved.

In order to achieve this, we look for people who are:
Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive and Inclusive.
