Part time/ 2.5 days TTO (Term Time only) plus 5 days.

Are you a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Habilitation Officer who is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with a vision loss?


North Yorkshire is seeking to appoint a Habilitation Officer to join our specialist team which supports the achievements of Vision Impaired Children and Young People (CYP).

The post is peripatetic and part of the wider Inclusion Service. The Sensory Service is made up of the Vision Support Team and Hearing Support Team.

We work with children and young people across North Yorkshire in the home, nursery and mainstream and special educational settings.


  • Have a relevant specialist qualification to work in this role.
  • Be able to provide excellent practice in provision to pupils and support to teachers/support staff and families.
  • Collaborate with Teachers of Vision (QTVI) and VI SPs (Specialist Practitioners for Vision) effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • An ability to work independently with a high level of efficiency and selforganisation.
  • Have experience of peripatetic working.
  • Have transport enabling them to travel over a wide rural area.
  • Be comfortable with presenting training to individuals and groups either face to face or online.
  • Be enthusiastic, selfmotivated and flexible with a solutionfocused attitude.
  • Have recent relevant experience working across different settings and within the age range 025
