About the role


Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:1 Proactively lead on horizon and environmental scanning to inform the constabulary's strategic leaders of threats, risks and opportunities arising from political, economic, social, technological, legal, environmental, demographic, regulatory change and any other areas of concern identified.


  • To be responsible for the process of running HMICFRS inspections, building and coordinating all internal processes and activities, monitoring recommendations and identifying all risks related to HMICFRS activity. As Force Liaison Officer, to be responsible for managing the Constabulary relationship with HMICFRS.
  • To be responsible for the co-ordination, management and delivery of the annual Force Management Statement, of internal audits and for the monitoring of the actions undertaken as a result.
  • Develop effective systems to ensure the capture and integration of Evidence Based Policing practices to ensure improvements and evaluation in all areas of the organisation.
  • Develop effective and innovative relationships with the College of Policing, HMIC, IPCC and other internal and external stakeholders to deliver key learning messages and to encourage a culture of continuous improvement, reflective practice and a willingness to learn.
  • To be responsible for developing and maintaining coherent, cohesive and professional relationships with local and national universities, other strategic partners and the College of Policing.

Essential Qualifications


Competent Chief Inspector or Educated to QCF Level 7 OR work experience deemed to have brought the postholder to a comparable level.


Essential Experience
Considerable work experience within the Criminal Justice System, HMIC or other statutory body.

Experience of successfully managing projects, including change management and service improvement.

To have considerable experience of managing staff/team.
