The Role


We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our expanding learning and teaching professional support service in the School of Biomedical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences.

You will work as part of a professional support team providing comprehensive administrative support to this highly rated School with a diverse portfolio of teaching programmes.

Duties include all processes associated with the student lifecycle (e.g. induction, registration, assessment, maintenance of records, timetabling as well as supporting designated School Committees.


You should have good organisational and interpersonal skills; be able to demonstrate high levels of accuracy and attention to detail, be a team player, together with the ability to use your own initiative and to prioritise your workload.

Flexibility, discretion, tact and diplomacy are a must.

Key Accountabilities

  • To provide administrative support to the learning and teaching function of the School across the full student lifecycle (from registration, through progression to completion)
  • Responsible for inputting amendments to annual documentation such as modules and regulations
  • Responsible for ensuring up to date information is uploaded to the appropriate University systems. In addition, to be responsible for inputting updates of teaching materials on university systems as they arise, and the timely distribution of materials to staff and students
  • Responsible for checking and updating student data using University systems, including ensuring students are appropriately registered for modules as required
  • Where appropriate, supporting the allocation of personal tutors to students, and for monitoring meetings between tutors and tutees via the ePortfolio system
  • Support the Learning & Teaching Team Leader with student attendance monitoring administration as requested
  • Responsible for receipt and collation of assessment materials from academic colleagues, for tracking assessed work out for marking and chasing to ensure it is processed within expected timescales. In addition, transcribing or uploading marks to relevant University systems
  • To support the organization of practical assessments and assist in setting up examination venues
  • To support the administration of processes relating to adjustments required for students with wellbeing issues or personal extenuating circumstances
  • To provide support for the arrangement of student placements and maintaining accurate records
  • To support the collation of timetable requirements in agreed timescales and, liaising with academic staff regarding requirements, advising on constraints and practicalities of requests
  • Where appropriate to act as secretary to designated meetings, including agenda preparation and circulation, minute taking and monitoring progress of actions
  • To provide support for the School's Admissions where required; this can be significant for some programmes
  • Any other duties within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required. This includes some flexibility in working hours and may include occasional weekend working (in the region of two Saturdays per year)
The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently
  • Good written and/or oral communication skills
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Excellent IT skills. Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and ability to type documents with both reasonable speed and accuracy and the ability to manipulate and analyse information for management purposes

Qualifications:


  • Grades A-C in English Language and Mathematics GCSE (or equivalent) or vocational qualifications, plus work experience in a relevant role; or relevant work experience in the unit or a comparable setting
