About the Role:

Stanford-le-Hope & Corringham PCN are looking to welcome a Physician Associate into our busy team of practices.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • The Physician associate will provide first point of contact care for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems utilising history-taking, physical examinations and clinical decision-making skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan in partnership with the patient (and their carers where applicable).
  • They will also review, analysis and action diagnostic test results.
  • They will deliver integrated patient centredcare through appropriate working with the wider primary care multidisciplinary team and social care networks.
  • They will undertake facetoface, telephone and online consultations for emergency or routine problems, as determined by the PCN, including management of patient's with longterm conditions. Where required by the PCN, physician associates can offer specialised clinics following appropriate training including (but not limited to) family planning, baby checks, COPD, asthma, diabetes and anticoagulation.
  • They will undertake home visits and participate in duty rotas.
  • The Physician associate will provide health/disease promotion and prevention advice to patients.
  • The Physician associates will utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidencebased practice and partake in clinical audits, significant event reviews and other research and analysis tasks.
  • Through participating in continuing professional development opportunities Physician associates will keep up to date with evidencebased knowledge and competence in all aspects of their role, meeting clinical governance guidelines for continuing professional development (CPD).
  • All physician associates will develop and agree a personal development plan (PDP) utilising a reflective approach to practice. They will operate under appropriate clinical supervision, with the PCN member practice's identifying a suitable named GP supervisor for each physician associate. The GP supervisor is not required to be physically present but must be readily available for consultation.

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • A Postgraduate Degree in Physician Associate Studies from an accredited PA Programme;
  • Membership of the Faculty of Physician Associates at the RCP, which includes UK Physician Associate Registration (the PA Managed Voluntary Register);
  • Current and valid certification or recertification by the UK Physician Associate National Examination;
  • Experience of working in a medicine environment, including preventative medicine and chronic disease management;
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to a varied and high volume workload with the ability to multitask and to work under pressure;
  • Consistently compassionate and respectful approach placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, nurses, other staff and agencies;
  • Commitment to continuing professional development.
