Job summary
To be responsible for the care and welfare of children in the setting in compliance with Company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with the Childcare Act 2006 and Health and Safety legislation, all within the requirements and guidelines as laid down by Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance.
Key responsibilities
The post holder shall:
- Be a positive role model for colleagues and children in all aspects of personal attitude, presentation and behaviour.
- Promote the health, safety and security of children, implementing all policies and procedures.
- Be able to offer continuous support of the children, to ensure their learning and development is supported at all times.
- To meet the needs of all children, (for example nappy changing/toileting once suitably trained and trusted; feeding; being supportive of their emotional and intellectual needs).
- Be able to foster good relationships with children and have regard to their emotional and social development.
- Act as an effective part of a team which delivers the highest standards of care of children and their parents in a flexible, caring and stimulating way.
- Have a good understanding and awareness of safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Work towards an understanding of the EYFS and be able to maintain good quality reporting systems, assessments and observations. Be aware of the importance of Ofsted inspections and be able to work towards a high standard. Help the team with planning and preparation of activities to develop all aspects of the child's individual development in a stimulating atmosphere.
- Have the ability to manage children's behaviour effectively, communicate with parents and work on strategies where appropriate.
- Offer all children equal opportunities with regard to their religious persuasion, racial origins, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background: in particular, challenging situations where racism or discrimination is displayed. Have an understanding of good SEND practice and procedures and be able to manage the care of any children with SEND, including liaising with external agencies and families.
- Have a sound understanding of safeguarding procedures and be able to help manage the processes of any cases. Understand the need for confidentiality.
- Have good problem solving skills and be able to communicate with colleagues and parents/carers.
- Be computer literate to the extent that some documentation can be done more quickly and of a higher standard of presentation. Also to support children's IT experiences when required. Be able to manage the children's online learning journals.
- Be able to attend meetings and courses which may be outside nursery opening hours.
- Work as part of a team to ensure effective staff deployment and ratios, being flexible on shift patterns.
- Ensure that the preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the nursery playrooms, kitchen and equipment are carried out according to the Policies and Procedures and risk assessments.
- Liaise with parents to ensure effective communication within the nursery where appropriate.
- Assist with regular parents' evenings, publicity, open days and children's outings and ensure effective marketing.
- Take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and other who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.
- Take part in periodic one to one supervisions which are a two way communication process to monitor performance and development.
- Have a regular performance review with the Deputy Nursery Manager, undergoing any training needs identified or desired as a result.
In addition, all Childcare Practitioners / Bank staff are expected to work within the terms of their contract of employment and adhere to company policies and procedures.

£9.36-£10.42 per hour
