McGeoch Technology Ltd.

is a well-established and expanding manufacturing company based in Birmingham and due to their current projected growth, we are now looking to recruit for the position of Buyer.

The successful applicant will be based at our client's production facility in Birmingham city centre.


The Role
Reporting to the Purchasing Manager your responsibilities will be to support the Purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate supply problems which may impact on the business


Other duties include:

  • Purchase goods, materials, components or services in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets
  • Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes, new projects and activities
  • Monitor and advise on any issues which present risk or opportunity to the organisation
  • Provide analysis on costs, new and existing and review cost reduction activities
  • Prepare reports and updates as and when required
  • Negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings
  • Prepare and raise purchase orders and order schedules
  • Conduct research for new components and suppliers
  • Compile data relating to supplier performance to enable evaluation
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers and contribute to performance reviews to ensure contract compliance
  • Issuing requests for quotation(RFQs/RFIs/RFPs) with focus on creating competitive tension between potential suppliers, providing the platform to make informed and sustainable sourcing decisions to support business requirements.
  • Identify risks in the supply chain with focus to resolve using supplier development activities or resource activities to support business requirements.
  • Ensure compliance to company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures during supplier negotiations and contracts award process.

Essential Requirements:


  • Able to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with staff, stakeholders and suppliers
  • Good communication, negotiation, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Analytical, numerically astute with strong demonstrated problem solving abilities
  • Able to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks and achieve set targets
  • Commercial and financial awareness with a full understanding of how failure impacts the production, manufacture and customer order fulfilment
  • Able to work well under pressure and handle emergency and stressful situations
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Familiarity with an integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system would be beneficial Word and Excel

Hours of Work:

Monday - Thursday 7:30 - 16:00

Friday - 7:30 - 12:30


Holidays
25 Days holiday; a combination of floating days and compulsory factory shutdown over Christmas period.

All bank holidays
