We are an _'Outstanding' _(Ofsted 2023) secondary academy, established in 2018 to provide an excellent education for children in Wimbledon.

With our new Sixth Form set to open this September, we will soon have a full cohort of students aged 11-18.


Two years after opening, we moved into our brand-new building which is modern, bright and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in every area of the curriculum.

We are oversubscribed and fortunate to have an amazing level of support from the community with waiting lists for entry into every year group of our academy.

We are looking for a hardworking and ambitious Finance Officer to join Harris Academy Wimbledon at this exciting time.


Main Areas of Responsibility

The purpose of your role will be:

  • To ensure the Academy's financial procedures operate in accordance with statutory guidelines
  • To be the appointed finance officer and complete all associated tasks in managing orders, invoices and paying suppliers
  • To ensure rigorous financial systems are in place for Academy purchases through each budget area
  • To be responsible for signing off any expenses claims as per Federation
  • To oversee the efficient and effective monitoring of Academy capital assets in liaison with the Federation
  • To ensure all Academy assets are recorded on a single central register
  • To inform the Principal of any losses during the year and to submit a termly list of any assets that have been disposed of
  • To collect money from students and complete any Academy banking
  • To support the process of and respond to audit reports and implementation of recommendations
  • To read and understand the Academies Financial handbook and check the Academies compliance reporting any concerns to the Finance Business Partner and the Principal
  • To oversee all the contracts, register at the Academy, ensuring all information is kept up to date
  • To monitor financial and quality issues relating to academy meals contract
  • To work with FBP when contracts are due renewal and ascertain value for money and quality of service are in line with expectations
  • To support the Academy in finding ways to raise capital funding
  • To find ways in which the Academy can get better value for money, through better procurement or other innovative ideas
  • To lead, manage and advise on decisions on the management/selection of preferred suppliers, ensuring adherence to Federation best value principle

Qualifications & Experience
We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • Qualifications to A level or equivalent
  • Knowledge of school finance systems
  • Knowledge of a variety of Financial recording systems
  • Knowledge of the budget setting process
  • Understanding of the role and function of external audit
  • At least three years' experience working in a finance department
  • Experience of working within financial controls
  • Experience of assisting with budget setting and budget management
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • High levels of numeracy
