Are you our next Airfield Control Lead? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for the airfield operation.

  • The Airside Operations team's main focus is on safety, service and performance, working with our business partners and third parties to deliver a safe and efficient operation. They manage the world's most efficient single runway.

What is the role?
The Airfield Control Lead is responsible for the Safety, Compliance and Performance during each shift operation of the Airfield.

Coaching their team of Controllers and Support you will act as the delegated authority in the absence of the accountable manager.

As Airfield Control Lead you will have accountability for the execution of the operational plan through a just safety culture and effective organisation of both Gatwick's and partner teams


What will you do?

  • Maintaining the Airfield Status in line with the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) and promulgation of NOTAMs
  • Providing leadership to the Airfield Operations team driving a high performance culture aligned to the organisational values.
  • Working with the Aerodrome team to ensure the safe throughput of aircraft movements by liaising with the necessary stakeholders preparing and disseminating necessary airfield, aviation and operational inform
  • The continuous improvement and development of people and processes to meet business and customer requirements.
  • Minimising disruption to the airfield, maintaining runway and airfield availability, including winter and adverse operational performance.

Do you have what we're looking for?

  • Experience of working in a leadership position within a safety focused service delivery environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of airfield and aircraft ground and flight operations, and in particular licensing and safeguarding activities
  • Experience in delivering improvements across a team
  • Sound commercial understanding
  • Exposure to Crisis management events.
  • Bias for action with a strong performance orientation.
  • Strong decision maker effectively driving change and continuous improvement.
  • Good resilience, being able to adapt well in the face of potentially challenging scenarios.
  • Personally driven, energetic, self motivating individual.
  • Good communicator
  • The ability to complete Advanced Operational courses including fire arms and airfield driving
