About the role


The postholder will be responsible for supporting the delivery of North Somerset Climate Emergency strategy and Action Plan and work collaboratively across organisation to support the development of sustainability strategies and policies.

The postholder will monitor Council's progress against Net Zero targets, report on organisational greenhouse gas emissions and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders with the aim to influence behaviours related to climate action.


We are looking for a Climate Emergency and Sustainability Co-ordinator to be working with Climate Emergency Manager and support the team with regular reporting to senior management team and elected members and will lead projects and activities in a matrix management structure to drive change.

The postholder will be required to liaise with external stakeholders on a variety of sustainable and climate issues including local, regional and national partners.


About you


The Climate Emergency and Sustainability Co-ordinator will undertake an integrated Sustainability Business Specialist degree apprenticeship (MSc), whilst working with the Climate Emergency team at North Somerset Council with the purpose to support the organisation to find new and innovative approaches to working and build resilience based on economically sound, socially friendly and environmentally driven principles.

The postholder will be expected to dedicate 6 hours per week towards academic studies as part of the placement. The Sustainability Business Specialist integrated degree apprenticeship will be delivered by Coventry University.

It is expected that the postholder will achieve the MSc in Sustainability and Environmental Management (Level 7) by the end of the 24 months placements.

North Somerset Council will compensate the academic tuition through organisational apprenticeship levy.
