This role will be based in the Families Together team which works to support children and young people to stay within or return to their family as opposed to requiring foster or residential placements.


The outreach worker role will support parents with their children and young people in their own homes and in the community, working flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

About the role


As an Outreach Worker you will be providing 1-to-1 support to children, young people and families in their own homes and in the community.

These clients could be experiencing social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, need support around lifeskills or at risk of going into care proceedings.

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who have flexible hours and would like to work in a challenging yet rewarding role.


The key responsibilities include:

  • Liaise with the allocated Families Together Practitioner and Team Leader to agree a tailored outreach support package for each matched referral
  • Completing risk and needs assessments and raise all safeguarding concerns
  • Supporting parents to implement parenting strategies and manage behaviour at home in line with agreed support plan
  • Ability to respond flexibly and at shortnotice to meet the demands of the service and the needs of the family
About you


We are looking for someone who has a passion for supporting parents and can approach challenging situations with creativity and empathy.

You will have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills that are open, honest, persuasive and pragmatic, including excellent negotiation and influencing skills.

You will be confident to work alone in the community, maintaining strong personal boundaries and managing and reporting safeguarding incidents.


Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Educated to GCSE level with preference for a relevant professional qualification in working with children or young people, youth work or supported housing
  • Experience of working with parents to implement effective parenting strategies, particularly where children and young people display challenging behaviours
  • Have a high degree of flexibility to work outside of usual business hours, including evenings and weekends, and will be able to respond at shortnotice to requests.
  • Hold a valid driving licence and have use of a vehicle to travel for business purposes.
