The postholder will lead day to day ships agency activities for Montrose. Ensuring the agency staff operate at the highest of professional standards with clients, owners, vessel staff and internal stakeholders.
The role is key to developing staff members to fulfil full potential and develop within the company, ensuring that competency for all staff is attained, maintained, and enhanced.
The agency supervisor will assist to manage and grow the business unit, working with all stakeholders to identify needs and requirements are met.
Roles and Responsibilities are as follows.General
- Maintain and build on industry contacts establishing a network from which to identify new opportunities for service delivery within existing contracts and with new Clients.
- Ensure an effective personal and team awareness of existing and prospective Clients' operating models to identify opportunities for delivering ASCO services.
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of the service offerings and developments of Competitors.
- Engage with current and prospective Clients about their requirements.
- Work with colleagues in all business units to ensure a shared awareness of ASCO's broader service offerings enabling joined up working and cohesive offerings to current and prospective clients.
- Build effective working relationships with Clients, ensuring that they always receive the highest quality of service delivery and support.
- Ensure that any issues identified by Clients are investigated and addressed timeously.
- Ensure that Management are kept appraised of opportunities and challenges.
- Monitor department operational performance by maintaining accurate records to ensure transparency across all activities.
- Provide effective leadership, management, and direction to all reporting staff within your responsibility.
- Ensure effective working relationships and communications with other operational teams.
- Ensure the effective management and allocation of workload to meet service delivery requirements, identifying and addressing any resourcing issues as required.
- Ensure that a training matrix and development plan are in place for all staff to promote excellence within ASCO operations.
- Address any issues in terms of employee conduct and capability timeously, fairly and consistently.
- Supervision of Ships Agency staff to ensure expected service levels are delivered.
- Manage staff rota / holidays / overtime / and operate department within budget.
- Action Operational requests from Vessels / Vessel Owners / Vessel Charterer.
- Monitor and keep up to date with Vessel Movements and charter status.
- Sourcing / Procurement of equipment and supplies.
- Extract the most efficient usage from resources in most effective manner.
- Training and mentoring of trainees and less experienced members of the ship's agency team.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of Risk Assessments / Method Statements and undertake review of same ensuring compliance with legislation / company rules.
- Driving HSSE and operational performance and efficiencies while identifying opportunities to improve service delivery and material control.
- Ensuring adherence to all relevant procedures, legislative requirements, and industry standards.
- Taking the lead on any investigations of service failures, incidents and accidents in order ensure a robust and auditable system is maintained.
- Work closely with ASCO Safety Advisors during any incident investigation or safety initiative to effect timeous and positive results.
- Good standard of general education
- Full clean driving licence
- Marine / Agency industry experience
- Port and client tariff experience
- Working knowledge of HMRC regulations
- Strong IT skills (Excel / AX)
- Driven to provide highest client standards
- Attention to detail
- Practical & flexible approach to work
- Ability to develop others
- HSE driven and aware
- Maintains positive work relationships
- Member of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers
- Strong people management experience
- Strong commercial acumen
