Description
Provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment, including patient education, for conditions of the foot and related structures to improve mobility, reduce pain and maintain tissue viability


Provide a Podiatry service for patients with complex pathologies of the foot with a range of often coexisting medical, long term conditions including Diabetes.


To fully assess, differentially diagnose and clinically manage patients, devising, implementing and delivering care packages and taking responsibility for individual patient discharge.


  • To provide assessment, diagnosis and specialist packages of care to patients with complex, multifactor foot pathologies and existing longterm conditions.
  • To communicate sensitive and complex condition related information to clients and their families in a way which is easily comprehensible and allows for possible barriers to understanding.
  • To liaise with other professionals and support workers on best strategies to meet client's needs, promoting client empowerment though health education.
  • To direct and refer to Podiatry Support Workers.
  • To undertake a reasonable number of treatments within the contracted hours and emergency treatments as necessary, as directed by the Professional Lead.
  • To undertake assessment and treatment of domiciliary patients, ensuring efficient use of Podiatry Support Workers' clinical time for visits as appropriate.
  • To discuss and refer as appropriate any complex or complicated cases to the appropriate specialist Podiatrist e.g. Podiatric surgery, MSK Podiatrist or specialist diabetes Podiatrist.
  • Use and maintain debridement skills.
  • Provide nail surgery assessment and surgery under Local Anesthesia to appropriate patients according to the policies of the Podiatry department
