    About the Role:

In this highly visible and exciting Policy and Public Affairs Officer role, you'll be regularly engaging with colleagues and external stakeholders to shape public policy, therefore helping drive the delivery of the UK's energy transition to Net Zero.

You'll have responsibility for building National Grid's reputation and influencing high profile key stakeholders, including Parliamentarians, Government, lobbying groups, Think Tanks, Trade Associations, Academics and EU stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities:


You'll be leading responses to Government and wider consultations impacting National Grid, and provide input for executive briefings, board papers, select committee inquiries and other external engagements.

Your Policy experience will enable you to support horizon scanning and pro-actively monitor and analyse policy and political developments in the UK - providing insight and intelligence to help shape business decisions.

By maintaining your network of external contacts and pro-actively engaging with relevant think tanks, trade associations, NGOs, academics and other policy-based groups, you'll support the delivery of corporate strategic campaigns - advising on policy, audience-specific message development and policy stakeholder mapping and engagement.

Your Stakeholder Management skills will enable you to collaborate across the business, to develop policy positions and shape policy messages.

Internally, you'll support policy governance, including drafting papers for discussion, and ensuring policy messages are kept up to date and are available to colleagues across the business.


About You:


You've got demonstrable knowledge & experience in Policy and Public Affairs, including developing policy messages, political positioning and integrated campaigning, and can communicate policy messages clearly and concisely.

You'll have a good understanding of the parliamentary and political landscape, and ideally key stakeholders which relate to and impact the utilities sector (governmental, regulatory, NGOs, industry bodies).

If you've worked in a large or matrix style organisation, this would be well regarded, where you have proven ability to network internally and externally and to develop successful, long-lasting business relationships and partnerships.

You have a background in delivering results, in a timely and challenging environment, able to deal with rapid change, complexity and ambiguity.


What we can Offer You:

Salary up to £48,000 - dependent on experience.

This role offers flexible hybrid working, working between both our offices at The Strand, London (2-3 days pw) and the rest from home.

We can also offer some flexibility in hours, if required - our standard working week is 37 hours.
