Location:
Barrow in Furness, on the edge of the Lake District national park, and in Frimley, Surrey. With flexible working hours and Working from home within the company guidelines included.

What you'll be doing:


  • Pricing major MoD, submarine platform and support contracts
  • Preparation and communication of labour and material estimates to support business activities, using a variety of costing toolsets and techniques
  • Scenario and simulation analysis on a micro to macro level to inform key business decisions
  • Supporting the development of key business forecasts
  • Generating and validating company norms, metrics & KPI
  • Developing and maintaining internal and external Customer relationships
  • Playing a key role in Customer price investigations and negotiations
  • Data analysis and interrogation to improve estimates and ensure value for money
  • Ensuring that Estimating Processes are understood and implemented throughout the wider organisation

Your skills and experiences:


  • All grades will have full training would be provided, whilst the higher grades we would be looking for experience of estimating on major programmes. Depending on your previous experience we will find a role that best suits your skills and development needs.
  • Experience from a variety of backgrounds including Data Analysis, Project Management, and Finance. Or for other roles within Cost Estimating Electrical, Mechanical, Production, Planning, Commissioning would be beneficial or a full relevant trade background with experience.
  • Educated to National Certificate level or equivalent in a technical/operational skill set, or GCSEs in Maths or English, IT would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable skills in the use of Microsoft packages are essential.

The Cost Estimating team:


As a Cost Estimator, you will be part of the Commercial function working closely with all areas of the business, across a broad spectrum of tasks, from facility business cases to design studies to whole boat pricing that will give you an excellent understanding of the submarines business and how it operates.


Your primary involvement will be to support the business through the creation of cost and price estimates, in relation to the management of existing contracts and the capture of new business, through the supply of critical data and analysis in support of key business decision making processes.

Cost Estimating is unique in the breadth of experience and understanding it can offer people who choose to work in this exciting, critical business area.
