ITV Cymru Wales plays a vital role in the lives of people across the country, providing high quality and trustworthy coverage on television and online.

This is your chance to work within a fast-paced national newsroom, planning and producing diverse and distinctive content.


You will work alongside an experienced team of journalists and technical specialists, who are eager to tell the stories that matter to our audiences.


The role


We're looking for exceptional journalists to play a key role in producing, planning and creating news content for ITV Cymru Wales.


Our Production Journalists are critical to our overall success and this role will suit both emerging and experienced journalists who come to us with a knowledge of Wales and an ambition to create impactful, high-quality, distinctive journalism.


In this role you will plan news stories, produce live television news bulletins and write and publish stories for our online audience.


You'll be working in a fast paced, seven day a week environment and shift working is a key part of this role.

We're committed to inclusivity and being representative of our audience. That starts with building trust and uncovering stories with particular appeal to under-represented groups.


No two days are the same and you will need to show us how your self discipline, work ethic and passion for news enables you to cope with a demanding workload.

This role entails-

  • Generating creative ideas for visual stories, finding new angles and creating original treatments.
  • Taking on new skills to write, publish and curate news content in a live environment to the standard required by ITV News.
  • Working in a team, requiring strong communication and decision making skills.
  • Having a passion for Wales and its people.

Key responsibilities-

  • Planning coverage, producing bulletins, curating and publishing online stories.
  • Keeping abreast of key developments within Wales and maintaining a strong contacts base.
  • Ensuring material is published in line with ITV's various legal and regulatory frameworks.

Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)

  • Recent achievements across the breadth of skills needed for the role including the sourcing, planning, editing and writing of news content on different platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Welsh audiences and the distinct nature of Wales and devolved structures.
  • Selfstarter approach and your creativity and ideas to bring original content to our audience on air and online.
  • Awareness and understanding of media law & compliance and the ability to exercise excellent editorial judgement and accuracy in their writing.

Other things we're looking for (key criteria)

  • Offers a different take with a track record for generating, developing and telling original stories for an ITV audience.
  • Relevant skills such as planning coverage, bulletin producing and curating news for a news website combined with a mindset that is willing to take on new skills and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience of reaching new audiences on new platforms.
  • Excellent, relevant contacts with an ability to build trust with people, communities, faiths and races outside of their own to tell their stories and so deliver original coverage for our online and television audience.
  • A good knowledge of Wales and its distinct features.
