Job Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Animal Technician for our world class Farm facility in Tranent.


In this key role you will be responsible for the day to day organisation and supervision of a large group of technical staff conducting a range of critical studies assessing the safety and efficacy of new medical treatments.

Your responsibility will include the organising/scheduling of technical teams, monitoring their performance on project work, including conducting of annual appraisal and career progression assessments


An in-depth working knowledge of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, GLP & Health and safety are essential in this role.


You will assist the Unit Manager / Principal Technician in the day to day running of the unit and when required be prepared to deputise in their absence.


Competence in conducting and training in a broad range of technical techniques, combined with successful leadership of technical teams is advantageous in the role.

The following are responsibilities related to the Senior Animal Technician position:

  • You will be an experienced Leading Animal Technician who holds a Home Office Personal Licence for Farm Animals
  • A caring self motivated attitude to animal welfare and continuous improvement
  • A proven track record in the supervision of others and the ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to lead by example, train and mentor others
  • Enthusiasm, work ethic and eagerness to learn.
  • Motivation to commit yourself to the demands of a busy working environment.
  • The ability to work independently as well as being a good team player
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel and Provantis
  • Participation in Continuing Professional Development Courses
This is a Scale 5 position.
