We are hiring field based Recycling Centre Operatives for temporary positions at various recycling centres throughout Essex.
The working hours for this role are 8:45 am to 4:15 pm (Mid October to February) and 8:45 am to 5:15 pm (March to mid-October).
We have openings available in the following locations:

- Saffron Walden
- Waltham Abbey
- Chigwell
- Clacton
- Braintree
- Witham
- Colchester
- Mersea
- Lawford
- Kirby
- Dovercourt
Job Purpose:
As a Recycling Centre Operative, you will be part of a team, working under the supervision of the site supervisor.
Your main responsibilities will include ensuring the cleanliness, tidiness, and safety of the site, assisting the public with information and directions, and supporting various site operations.
This includes providing necessary information to subcontractors/hauliers, maintaining proper waste movement procedures, and conducting routine inspections.Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily/weekly routine tasks assigned by the site supervisor and Line Manager, including site maintenance, equipment inspection, and inventory management.
- Assist in the safe movement of waste containers, ensuring public safety.
- Support administrative tasks related to waste management, paperwork, compliance processes, and quality assurance using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Conduct daily inspections in accordance with environmental regulations and procedures, documenting any defects and reporting accidents, incidents, and hazards.
- Carry out other duties as required to meet the service's needs.
Requirements:
- Qualifications/Training: Desirable minimum GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths or NVQ level 2. Full driving license with at least 2 years of experience. IOSH Working Safely or equivalent safety accreditation is desirable.
- Knowledge: Interest in recycling and the environment. Familiarity with proper manual handling is preferred. Computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Experience: Experience working in the waste industry and providing customer service.
- Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication with the public, and ability to handle challenging situations calmly. Selfmotivated, able to work independently or as part of a team, and proficient in administration tasks.
- Character: Punctual, hardworking, and able to remain calm in difficult situations. Willingness to adapt, learn, and develop skills and knowledge. Good overall health, capable of working on foot for extended periods.
- Availability/Locality/Mobility: Able to start early morning shifts. Occasionally available for outofhours operational and customer emergencies. Applicants must have their own transport and be willing to travel between sites.
**_ Note: This role requires mobility throughout the operational area. Therefore, the post holder must have a driving license and access to a vehicle, or be able to meet the mobility requirements through alternative means._
