Stoke on Trent Council has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced social work trained professional to join our Safeguarding Unit as an Independent Reviewing Officer, known locally as an Independent Reviewing Officer.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

  • This post entails the planning, preparation and chairing of child protection conferences and statutory reviews for Looked After children
Strategic Management

  • To deputise for the Manager as required.
  • To develop and maintain effective partnership working across the statutory, voluntary and independent sectors.
  • To ensure the delivery of CLA reviews and CP conferences in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • To contribute to the development of a service delivery plan.
  • To ensure that young people are enabled and empowered to express their views in appropriate settings, developing a range of methods to engage with young people including children who have a disability.
  • To work effectively as part of the Children's Services Safeguarding Review & Quality Assurance Service.
  • To chair and be accountable for decision making in child protection conferences and statutory reviews for children who are Looked After, ensuring that requirements are met arising from the legislative framework, statutory guidance and departmental policy. This includes ensuring that statutory reviews and conferences for children are held within the appropriate time scales.
  • To assess and make complex decisions about the safeguarding of vulnerable children using policy procedure, and research.
  • To provide general information, advice and guidance, in the capacity of a Safeguarding Advisor, to professional colleagues, members of the public and all other external agencies.
  • To contribute to the Council's delivery of the management of allegations/LADO responsibilities, by providing advice and chairing LADO Strategy meetings as required.
  • To work with multiagency partners to maximise a joinedup approach to the development and delivery of outcomebased plans. These outcomebased plans must be SMART and should reflect specific, measurable and realistically achievable interventions that can be implemented within proportionate timescales.

Qualifications:

  • Qualification in Social Work
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Enhanced DBS
