Job Summary:


  • We currently have a temporary job vacancy within the Environmental Maintenance Department for an Administration Officer to work in the Street Scene Team, this position is for approximately 4 months, which may be extended by mutual agreement.
  • We are looking for someone who is flexible, can multitask, great communication skills, able to work as part of a team and the ability to work independently.
  • This post is very customer care driven, it is a reactive service and therefore has a high demand, from our customers, one of the main duties of the post will be dealing with day to day customer service enquiries, which involves responding direct to the customer and reacting to their enquiry, you must be computer literate and have a good understanding of IT packages, as this will involve raising Task Orders using a software package called Confirm.
  • You must be able to communicate at all levels and work collaboratively with the Term Service Contractor, their supply chain, Councillors, Parish Councillors, stake holders and other members of staff, to provide the best and most efficient street scene service to our customers.

Sample of Key Duties/Accountabilities:


  • To process and maintain Shropshire Councils computerised systems for orders, accounts, customer services, street works etc. for which training will be given.
  • To effectively deal with incoming telephone calls, enquiries, correspondence, and customer service requests. Where necessary processing customer service requests using Confirm system or allocating to officers and managers as appropriate.
  • To maintain and organise the divisional filing system in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • To reconcile Divisional Impress Account.
  • Issue receipts / permits to applicants for licences and bank cash / cheques in accordance with financial procedures.
  • In times of adverse weather conditions or other emergencies working outside of normal hours may be required.
  • To undertake such other duties appropriate to the post that may be allocated from time to time by the Senior Administrator i.e., covering other offices, preparing information as requested etc. for the Highways Manager.
  • The post holder will be expected to become involved in a range of work to enable Environmental Maintenance to respond effectively to the requirements of the Council.

Essential Experience Required:


  • Experience of general office work in a busy fastpaced, frequently changing environment.
  • Good spelling, grammar, and numeracy skills.
  • Experience of taking and producing accurate and comprehensive minutes of meetings.
  • Clear understanding of confidentiality. Clear and effective communicator in writing, on the telephone and facetoface with the public, professional colleagues, contractors and partners/suppliers.
  • Good written skills to be able to prepare letters and other documents.
  • Well organised and motivated.

Essential Qualifications Required:


  • 5 GCSEs grade A C or equivalent
  • RSA Stage 2 Word Processing or equivalent

Additional information to note:


  • Driving Licence needed.
