About the Role

This role is available as a secondment opportunity for internal staff, but please check with your current Line Manager before applying.


This is a pilot team that has ambition to succeed, we have a clear project plan to bring improvements and some exciting new services which the roles will be directly involved with.

These positions are rarely advertised as they combine finance and social care together in a unique and interesting area of social care and are therefore really exciting opportunities.


As a Self-Directed Support Monitoring Officer, you will be monitoring Direct Payments (DPs) and individual service funds (ISFs) that combine finance with adult social care.

The role will also help to shape the future of Self-Directed Support (SDS) in Kingston by providing advice, guidance and direct support to operational staff and residents.


This role will also include:

  • Using computerised systems such as Liquid Logic-IAS and ContrOCC social care based systems. Business World corporate financial system and independent webbased portals on a frequent basis including managed accounts.
  • Completing monitoring returns to ensure that the funds comply with the support plan, agreements and corporate procedures. Where discrepancies or concerns are identified, the post holder will need to collaborate with colleagues; this may include financial abuse issues, misuse of funds, claw backs of unspent monies, requesting the suspension of future funding and client contribution returns.
  • Ensuring appropriate and timely intervention for customers/carers and colleagues who have identified risks to the finances.
  • Monitoring and reconciling Direct Payment and Individual Service Funds bank accounts to ensure funds are used appropriately in accordance with support plans, council procedures and policies.
  • To ensure that any overpayments are collected and returned to the council in accordance with financial procedures or raise invoices via the billings and collections team.
