We are looking to recruit an Engineering Assistant - Summer Placement to join our team at Sparrows for 16 weeks.


The main purpose of the Engineering Assistant is to report and work under the supervision of the Head of Engineering and Team Leaders / Engineering staff within the business units to provide engineering support for ongoing projects.

Main responsibilities

  • Responsible for updating and advising the Team Leaders / Engineering staff within the business unit(s) problems/queries on any ongoing jobs.
  • Responsible for administration of assigned project files, documentation files and the compilation of controlled documents, as required.
  • Liaison with departmental engineers and update / review of activity register
  • Compiling basic / low value CTRs for engineer review
  • Responsible for dealing with enquires for spare parts and hire equipment, including quotes, mobilisation and invoicing.
  • Completion of purchase requisitions.
  • Expediting of materials and equipment.
  • Responsible for checking incoming spares and ensuring all items are accountable for rebuild.
  • Completion of Job Cards to include work instructions, due dates, quality checks, reference drawings, procedures etc. for basic engineering projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of work packs for generic jobs, e.g. CCEs, Planned Maintenance works.
  • Liaison with Clients and Subcontractors.
  • Arrange equipment despatch and transportation.
  • Compilation of job closeout reports.
HSEQ responsibilities

  • It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.
  • The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under countryspecific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.

  • Good grounding in engineering knowledge, practices and methods.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects.
  • Team player.
