Description

This new role is to support the Integrated Front Door project and the new build Emergency Department and Children Emergency Unit in 2024.

The Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre sees approximately 130,000 attendances per year with a separate Paediatric Emergency Department.


The department has a 5-bay resuscitation area, a 13-bay majors trolly area, an ambulatory majors area, a minor theatre a plaster room and an 8 bedded observation area.

The department is located adjacent to Radiology. Recently the integrated front door project has delivered a newbuild Urgent treatment centre. Building is underway to deliver a new Emergency Department and Children's Emergency Unit in 2024.

60% of the post will be Emergency Medicine clinical care allowing an opportunity for doctors wanting to gain experience and responsibility in not just managing patients but managing a busy department (at Registrar level).


  • Take a history and examine a patient
  • Identify and synthesize problems
  • Prescribe safely
  • Keep an accurate and relevant medical record (electronic notes)
  • Manage time and clinical priorities effectively
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues
  • Use evidence, guidelines and audit to benefit patient care
We are a busy DGH Emergency Department that sees a wide variety of presentations (in both adult and paediatric). We deal with medical, surgical, orthopaedic, paediatric and trauma patients. These patients can present and be assessed in resus, majors, minors or paediatric ED.

40% of the time will be spent delivering clinical Paediatrics including Shifts within CED and other paediatric areas, QI and Education
