Job Summary


This role is accountable for the direct Maximus operational direct delivery of the Disabled Students Allowance service contract; namely remote assessments, the Connect service solution and the assistive technology training team.

Beyond this accountability,the HoO will support the Contract Director in having a responsibility for ensuring that the technology solution for the DSA service is fit for purpose and will work alongside the Supply Chain team and Quality & Contract Manager to provide wider leadershipfor the DSA service.


The primary accountability of this role is to successfully deliver on all key performance targets (including Customer Service/Quality Standards) and drive performance improvement across the DSA service to meet Maximus and Commissioner delivery expectations.

Salary Range
Non London £47,000-£54,600pa
London £55,500-£63,900pa

This role will be recruited in anticipation of Contract Reward.


Essential Job Duties

  • Accountable for all aspects of Maximus's own delivery of the DSA service - namely line management of the Maximus assessment team, assistive technology training team and the contact centre service (delivered via Connect Division), ensuring that all relevantcontractual service standards are delivered to the satisfaction of the Commissioner and service users.
  • Leading and motivating direct delivery teams in line with Maximus values whilst driving a continuous improvement culture to ensure the service matures and develops to drive improved effectiveness over the contract life.
  • To meet financial and contractual targets where required, assisting with the management of relationships with the commissioner team and leading on business reviews, CPRs and general operational reporting.
  • Work closely with the technology team to ensure that the IT infrastructure and reporting tools are all operating effectively to support the delivery of the service, ensuring that work is suitably scheduled, and resources are effectively deployed to deliverthe service and meet Maximus financial expectations.
  • Support the Contract Director in the effective management of the Commissioner relationship (SLC), taking on responsibility for day-to-day performance reporting and supporting in the provision of responses and MI in line with Commissioner needs and expectations.
  • Support the supply chain team in sharing good practice and promoting continuous improvement across the delivery model for the ongoing improvement of the DSA service through the contract life.
  • Work with key stakeholders (HE institutions, student representative bodies groups, etc) and interest groups to promote the DSA service and its positive impact on students and the wider community.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Extensive experience (5+ years) of working at a senior operational level delivering contracts and leading teams, ideally within public service arena
  • Proven capability in resource management, work allocation, scheduling, contingency planning, etc
  • Effective communicator
  • Demonstrable leadership capability and proven leader of operational teams to support a high performance, high quality culture
  • Strong relationship management with direct supplier and Commissioner experience
  • Demonstrable intellectual ability (preferably educated to degree level)
  • Preferably experienced (or qualified) in continuous improvement
  • Able to work flexibly and, travel extensively and effectively around geographical area of responsibility
