We are looking for a Mechanical Estates Officer to join our team at Walsall Manor Hospital.


You'll:


  • Assist senior management in the effective management of the New Build and Retained Estate areas, ensuring all mechanical elements are maintained to the highest standard.
  • Support the Capital Project Team where required and contribute to the management of minor projects, upgrades and new developments as required.
  • Engage and supervise maintenance contracts and all works in connection with Mechanical Services including:
  • Manage a small team of skilled/semi-skilled technicians, in carrying out Reactive Maintenance and Planned Preventative Maintenance within the key performance indicator targets.
  • Bring to the attention of senior management nonconformities or exceptions in a timely manner, identifying suitable mitigation measures and where appropriate, identify issues for inclusion in the departmental risk register.
  • Be willing to undertake the role of Authorised Person for ventilation and medical gas, and/or other AP duties as deemed necessary/skilled to do so.
  • Manage and coordinate shutdowns for maintenance, refurbishment, and newbuild projects, liaising with a wide range of professionals, Clients, Medical and Departmental staff; ensuring concurrent works around the site do not give rise to conflicts or unsafe conditions.
  • Assist with the upkeep of the Operating & Maintenance Manual Library. To manage the information for quality and accuracy.
  • Management of the Facilities Management System (Concept). Establishing a strategy to identify an estate asset encompassing buildings, plant and machinery, equipment and services. Collating the information to determine a maintenance regime for the reduction in breakdown. Provision of reports to determine the requirements of PPM levels by using a high level of analytical and judgemental skills, requiring specialist knowledge of a range of activities and knowledge of all trades. Organisation of information as a systematic development relating to the estate and all assets to establish a working plan of in house and external maintenance regimes. Planning schedules for periodic testing and maintenance of the buildings and assets. Research and incorporate changes in working requirements and developing innovative working practices to establish more costeffective working principles.
  • Participation (as per AP/support duties) in all necessary Working/Safety Groups on behalf of Skanska and with our respective Clients. To actively participate in compliance matters/meeting with stakeholders.
  • Specific responsibilities include the training and monitoring of staff for work associated with ventilation and medical gas systems.
  • To comply with all relevant legislation and Health and Safety standards, guidance notes, British or European Standards, Health and Technical Memorandums etc in any work undertaken in this post. This will necessitate maintaining up to date and appropriate records (as required).

We're looking for:


  • City and Guilds apprenticeship or equivalent course in Mechanical Engineering (desirable)
  • IOSH Managing Safely/SMSTS (desirable)
  • Have experience of AP duties/responsibility in Ventilation or Medical Gas
  • Commercial Management
  • Supervisor/Management qualification (desirable)
