About the Team


This role will be part of Ofcom's Online Safety Group, whose broader purpose is to lead our work in ensuring UK citizens have a safer life online.

The Group's activities include leading

_supervisory _engagement with a broad range of tech companies, including some of the biggest in the world, to help ensure platforms are creating safe online spaces for users.

Ofcom's VSP programme is composed of three core sub-teams - Strategy Delivery, Policy, and Supervision.

The VSP Supervision team provides close, structured engagement with certain services in scope of the regime, to further Ofcom's understanding of online safety measures and drive tangible improvements.

The team leads and delivers our VSP Supervision strategy and aims in collaboration and coordination with other specialist teams in Ofcom.

Purpose of the role


We are recruiting a Senior Supervision Associate to support Ofcom's approach to regulating VSPs, helping to protect users from harmful and illegal content.

Senior Supervision Associates will build and maintain relationships with

our notified VSPs

through proactive engagement.


You will lead the development of supervision objectives to understand, assess and, where necessary, drive improvements to the measures that platforms take to protect users.

You will be responsible for developing engagement strategies that drive forward these objectives and report on progress against them to the wider Online Safety Group, ensuring they are aligned with the priorities of the VSP programme - which you can read about in our

As a Senior Supervision Associate you may manage the relationships with some VSPs or support Supervision Principals in the management of larger VSPs.

You will be Ofcom's main point of contact for some platforms, ensuring that our engagement and requests meet Ofcom's strategic aims while balancing proportionality.

Colleagues working on the VSP Programme work collaboratively and it is likely that you will be asked to contribute to the work of VSP Policy Managers, supporting the development, delivery and management of our programme of policy work, across one or more of the strategic priorities we set out in our

recent report
:

- ensuring VSPs have sufficient processes in place for setting and revising comprehensive user policies (generally known as Community Guidelines), reviewing the tools VSPs provide to allow users to control their experience, and- driving forward the implementation of robust age assurance.


Key responsibilities- Build and maintain relationships with notified video-sharing platforms (VSPs)- Understand, assess and, where necessary, drive improvements in relation to protection measures taken by VSPs.- Oversee and manage the workload of junior and cross-functional colleagues and deliver through others across our cross-functional VSP programme.- Support the work of Principals as needed to help ensure we deliver against our strategic priorities for the VSP regime.- Work alongside, or occasionally as part of, the VSP Policy Development Team, as necessary, to support the development, delivery and management of our programme of policy work.- Identify and drive research, information gathering and analysis about the platforms you supervise and ensure analysis and outputs are drawn together for the wider team.- Ensure the delivery of clear, concise and focused documents, such as briefings and research reports, for internal use or external publication.- Build and maintain effective relationships with teams across Ofcom that work with us, ensuring they are updated, included and feel heard.- Ensure clear communication and information sharing at all levels with the rest of the VSP Team and deliver clear updates on the platforms you supervise when requested.- Develop and foster online expertise across Ofcom's online safety and VSP programme and keep across online trends and technological developments.- Keep abreast of the public policy landscape in relation to online regulation.
