We operate the National Gambling Helpline, provide treatment for anyone who is harmed by gambling, create awareness about safer gambling and treatment, and encourage an effective approach to safer gambling within the gambling industry.


The Role


This is a great time to join GamCare as we're recruiting a Head of External Affairs who will be responsible for leading GamCare's influencing strategies across multiple stakeholder groups.

Due to rapid expansion our team is growing, and this is a great opportunity to lead an External Affairs function that will position GamCare as a key stakeholder that is recognised for its impact as the leading provider of help and support for gambling harm.


The Head of External Affairs is a pivotal role where you will create strategies and plans in support of our policy influence, public affairs and stakeholder engagement, and be a trusted senior advisor to the organisation on external affairs.


About You


As a member of the Senior Leadership team, you will play an essential role in the development and delivery of GamCare's strategy and business plan, working collaboratively with other members of the team within the Policy and Communications Directorate and beyond.


With experience of working at a senior level in external affairs for an organisation in a complex stakeholder environment, and of influencing national and local policy, you will have a track record of credible and effective stakeholder engagement up to the highest levels of seniority.


You will have set and delivered strategic policies including at organisational level and will have demonstrable experience of delivering high profile engagement and networking events.

You will be comfortable setting, reviewing and evaluating business plans, and will have successfully managed and motivated a team including providing objectives, and supporting their personal development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop an External Affairs Team, creating a centre of excellence for GamCare's influencing work.
  • Guide GamCare's stakeholder influencing agenda while also that of the National Gambling Treatment Service of which we are a part.
  • Create and deliver a measurable approach to government and stakeholder relations through the delivery of a strategy and measurable plan.
  • Proactively work within our Directorate and with teams across the organisation to raise the internal profile of the role of the team.
  • Lead the External Affairs team to deliver a range of regular measurable activities that include the creation of clear and consistent messaging, content, consultation and inquiry responses, policy monitoring and positions.
  • Identify opportunities for GamCare and the National Gambling Treatment Service to build positive stakeholder relationships.
