Glorious Cotswold Grasslands - Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Programme Officer

Salary:
£30,999 per annum dependant on experience.

Hours:
Full-time (37 hours), permanent. Flexible working requests will be considered.


We are offering an outstanding opportunity to directly contribute to the recovery of nature through the restoration of wildflower grasslands across a beautiful landscape.


Based on a successful track record, and alongside the National Trust and our funding partner (National Highways), we will be delivering an ambitious programme of 120 ha of wildflower grassland restoration.

Working with colleagues, volunteers, partners and clients, this role will ensure the successful development and delivery of this programme.


This role offers an outstanding opportunity to directly contribute towards the recovery of nature through the restoration of wildflower grassland.

This is at a time when it is needed the most in order to allow wildlife to move across the landscape and adapt to climate change.


Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Support the maintenance of strategically important relationships with the BNG programmes key partners, particularly the National Trust, National Highways (NH) and their consultants.
  • Lead on the recruitment and retention of landowners to the BNG programme including the signing of agreements, working with the Glorious Cotswolds Grasslands (GCG) team. Deliver talks to promote the programme to this audience.
  • Undertake initial site visits to recruit land owners and gather material required for submission to NH including: maps, initial habitat assessments & BNG metric completion.
  • Provide grassland restoration and management advice to landowners.
  • Work with the GCG Operations Coordinator to deliver wildflower grassland restoration through the harvesting, preparation and sowing of seed for the BNG programme. This will involve towing on and off road and working in fields remote from public highways and involve a variety of ground conditions.
  • Support ground preparation prior to sowing where necessary.
  • Lead on the timely preparation of information for submission to NH to secure each stage of funding. Ensure information is accurately managed for the longterm monitoring and payments.
  • Working with the GCG Programme Officer involve volunteers in the BNG programme's seed collection and sowing delivery.
  • Working with the GCG Operations Coordinator ensure the provision and maintenance of equipment and property, necessary to deliver the programme's operations.
  • Working with the GCG Programme Officer and volunteers progressively undertake botanical surveys revising the BNG metric and management advice as necessary.
  • Support the GCG Operations Coordinator with the management of landowners, clients and partners across the GCG programme, building and maintaining a comprehensive contact list.
  • Ensure that the programme's work and activities comply with legal requirements, including health and safety legislation and the Board's general policies and guidance.
  • Support the production of promotional content for the programme, across social media channels, newsletters and web pages.
  • Support the programme's attendance at events and other networking opportunities.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be required, consistent with the principal responsibilities of the post.

Person Specification:


Qualifications:
Degree level or equivalent


Experience:


  • Experience of working with the landowning/managing community (essential)
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of wildflower grassland restoration and management (essential)
  • Experience of offroad driving and trailer towing (desirable)
  • Experience of using GIS (desirable)
  • Experience of working with the Biodiversity Net Gain metric and condition assessment (desirable)

Skills and Knowledge:


  • Good level of written and oral communication skills, presentation skills.
  • Excellent outreach skills with the ability to positively engage with the landowning/managing community
  • Good level of written and oral communication skills, and ability to network
  • Good level of IT skills
  • Good levels of judgment, tact and initiative
  • Use of a vehicle for business purposes
