About Us:

Charlton Athletic Football Club is an English professional association football club based in Charlton, south-east London.

The club was founded on June 9th, 1905 and has a very storied history from rising to the top-flight of English Football in the 1930s (First Division) and again in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, to winning the FA Cup in 1947 and to leaving their Valley home in the mid-1980s only to make an impassioned return in 1992.

Historically, the women's team played under Charlton Athletic from 2000 to 2007 but were released to become an independently run team in 2007 following the men's team's relegation from the Premier League.


The women's team were originally formed as a non-professional team in 1991 and were highly successful in the early 2000s winning The FA Cup, the League Cup, and the Charity Shield, as well as coming runners-up in the top division in multiple seasons.

In February 2021, the club acquired the Charlton Athletic Women's team, turning the team full-time professional, and integrating them to become one club again.


Currently, our men's first team competes in League One, the third tier of English football, and our women's team competes in the Women's Championship, the second highest division of women's football in England.

At Charlton, we are 'one club' and can be truly described as a 'family club'.


Role Description:

The purpose of this role is to.....


Key Responsibilities:


As a performance lifestyle coach for the club, you will set objectives aimed at providing and developing the best performance lifestyle support possible for players and staff.


You will work with a person first approach, to provide an individual service to the players with the aim of supporting their personal and professional development, and help impact the players to be able to reach their full potential.


  • Proactively engaging players in future life planning and career development, with the emphasis on early intervention and continued personal and professional development throughout their time on the programme
- (Where applicable) encouraging and facilitating dual career aspirations with effective management of the balance between sporting and non-sporting commitments
- (Where applicable) Support players to establish academic and work flexibility

  • Promote the importance and impact of players creating and developing broader identities and interests beyond their sport in maintaining personal wellbeing
  • Providing support and education around finding and managing the optimal personal balance for conflicting demands e.g. from education, employment, family, financial etc to protect performance potential
  • Providing proactive exit support for players leaving the club after their contract expiries or is are terminated
  • Providing a safe, impartial and where appropriate confidential space to support players, sign posting and referring onward as appropriate to safeguard the welfare and wellbeing of the players
  • Build and promote a mental health strategy within the club, whilst also educating players about the mental health strategy available within The FA or other football governing bodies

Education/Qualifications/Training:


  • ILM Level 5 or 7 Qualification in Coaching and Mentoring or similar qualification (D)
  • Mental Health First Aid Qualification (E)

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:


  • An understanding of the needs of elite players and coaches in a high performance environment (E)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the women's football pyramid including the Women's Championship and Women's Super League (D);
  • Knowledge of development and session planning (D).
  • A good understanding of how UK further and higher educational establishments currently deliver education (D)
  • An understanding of the principles of effective planning, goalsetting and time management (E)
  • An understanding of the multidisciplinary practice of various sports science and medicine disciplines surrounding elite athletes (E)
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, communication and selfawareness with the ability to build rapport quickly, leading to strong and productive relationships (E)
  • Basic coaching and mentoring skills (E)
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills (D)
  • An interest in sport and recognition of the importance of promoting and supporting equality, safeguarding and antidoping within sport. (D)
  • An understanding of career management and development theory and practice (D)
  • Can demonstrate knowledge and awareness of player support personnel roles and responsibilities under the World Anti-Doping Code (E)

  • This a full time role that includes work on weekends and evenings (negotiable);
