Job summary:

The Local Government Engagement Division has a reputation for excellent stakeholder management.

We help ensure local councils are involved in the cross-government policy development cycle, and that critical information flows freely between Whitehall and the local level.

We also hold responsibility for the Honours Secretariat, ensuring that excellence across the sector is recognised through the award of honours.

In this role you will be a core part of the team working to deliver DLUHC's contribution to the UK honours system.

The role will require both excellent interpersonal and organisational skills as you will be interacting with colleagues at a very senior level across government and within the department.

You will be handling sensitive information and will need to keep the confidentiality of the Honours process.

You will also have the opportunity to develop an understanding of project management and get involved with wider local government engagement activity.

This role is an excellent development opportunity, and we would also welcome applicants who want to consider integrating this role with an apprenticeship in Business Administration.

Job description:

  • Keep clear and comprehensive records of honours nominations and supporting information
  • Develop and use programme and project management techniques to plan ahead to ensure that nominations are considered in a timely way
  • Build strong interpersonal skills to engage and manage stakeholders across Whitehall and within the department, as well as externally
  • Ensure no unnecessary delays at crucial parts of the process by providing high quality drafting
  • Help to develop the honours strategy for local government and support colleagues in other business areas in developing their strategy
  • Support the executive team and ministers with briefing and providing advice as needed
  • Be actively involved in supporting the division's wider work of communication and engagement with local government and Whitehall.
Specific tasks can be flexed to ensure that the post holder achieves their development goals.
