  • The Environment Agency works in partnership with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to manage the impacts of flooding, climate change, navigation and biodiversity that effect the environment, people, and wildlife.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to become part of our Asset Performance team based in Oxford.

The work you do will help make a better place for people and wildlife in and around the River Thames and other local river catchments.

Responding to incidents of asset failure and managing risks to public safety is our biggest priority and will be the main focus of your workload which will include the following typical activities:

  • Managing our databases, this will include inputting and amending data.
  • Providing general support to the team in the delivery of Navigation and Flood and Coastal Risk Management asset maintenance and management.
  • Supporting our incident response responsibilities.
  • Undertaking a variety of site visits within area, meeting with various partners and landowners.
  • Working with internal teams and external partners.


  • The team

  • We are responsible for managing assets along the river Thames from St Johns lock in Lechlade to Sonning lock nr Reading.

This team is based at Osney Yard in Oxford, though we are currently working on a hybrid basis from where our Operational needs are best suited.

We also carry out site visits to our assets. This specific role will be working mainly in the St Johns to Godstow area with some variants on occasion.

  • Experience/skills required
  • Focussed on finishing tasks and delivering to deadlines.
  • Confidence in problem solving and an ability to defend the decisions.
  • A confident and clear communicator.
  • A willingness to take ownership of allocated work and to learn on the job.
  • Experience of working with the Microsoft Office Suite in particular Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Some understanding of risk management and health and safety practices.
