A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work for Binstead Primary School as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice.


At Binstead Primary School, their Mission Statement is "learning together through fun and challenge." They are a learning community that is passionate about ensuring the best possible education for every child, within a welcoming, challenging, and fun environment, where children are excited and engaged by their learning.


Main tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide pastoral support to pupils.
  • Attend to pupils' personal needs and provide advice to assist in their social, health and hygiene development.
  • Support provision of support for pupils with special needs.
  • Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model.
  • Challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce selfesteem.
  • Supervise the children in the dining area, playground, field and school premises.
  • Support pupils' access to learning using appropriate strategies, resources etc.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate behaviour management strategies.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos / work / aims of the school.
  • Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies / professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support achievement and progress of pupils.
  • Participate in training and other learning activities as required
  • Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others.

Person Specification:

  • Experience working with children of relevant age.
  • Experience of working with pupils with additional needs.
  • Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes and in particular, barriers to learning.
  • Very good numeracy / literacy skills.
  • Ability to selfevaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.

Apprenticeship Standard:

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English if required and if not previously achieved GCSE grade 4 or above.
  • There is a requirement to complete off the job training of 6 hours per week, time spent either learning something new, other courses or any support work that is not in your usual role will also be counted.
  • Attendance at Isle of Wight College as required.

Working Week:

  • Term Time only + 5 development days as per IOW Local Authority school dates.
  • 30 hours per week.

Wage:

  • National Minimum Wage for Age.


Once qualified and dependant on needs of the school at the time of apprenticeship completion, there may be the potential for a permanent position.
