Core Hours: 7.5hrs between 08:00 - 20:00


Location:
County Hospital, Stafford


The University Hospital of North Midlands, Mid Cheshire and East Cheshire NHS Trusts are working collaboratively to form a Pathology network (NMCPS) in line with a NHSI directive.


The post involves:


  • Receipt and identification of Biological samples from Hospital and GP patients. Eg Venous Blood, Spot urine /24hr Urine samples
  • CSF / Faeces
  • Barcode labelling and data entry of confidential information into the Pathology computer system (Masterlab) to enable downstream analysis / sample processing.
  • Phoning results for Biochemistry and dealing with incoming calls & assorted enquiries from Acute wards / GP surgeries.
  • Use of centrifuges to spin Blood samples into enable the serum ( liquid part ) to be analysed for required investigations.
  • Distribution of samples to all Pathology departments. Referral to external laboratories within the UK for specialist testing not available at UHNM
  • Basic laboratory analysis and support for the department including maintenance of analysers calibration / Quality checks. Currently Siemens is the main diagnostic supplier
  • A good general education to GCSE level or equivalent is required and experience in data entry is essential. Attention to detail to transfer key demographic information.
  • Previous experience of laboratory work is preferable but not essential as in house training will be given to enable the successful applicant to meet the requirements of the job.
