Job description:


  • Are you a skilled graphic designer and motion graphic designer, ready to turn topoftheheadlines news stories into digestible, thumbstopping content for hundreds of thousands of social media followers?
  • If so, then we are looking for you. We need graphic designers with an array of skills to add to our friendly team of social media experts.
  • No two days are the same you could be designing content for a nationwide campaign; creating fun, shortform content for Instagram reels; or creating an innovative animation to explain a complex but lifechanging policy.
  • With a supportive team behind you and lots of learning and development opportunities, we can help you take the next step in your career and give you a fascinating insight into the heart of government.

Person specification:


  • You will deliver polished products that suit both government and Ministerial social media channels.
  • You will work with the team on creative storytelling ideas, sometimes brainstorming right from the start of a project, sometimes working to very specific briefs designed by other social media experts or senior stakeholders.
  • You will develop graphics and animations that help further explain the department's biggest stories in an accessible way.
  • You will work within our brand guidelines but still pursue innovative new ways of telling stories on new channels, and contribute to brand reviews to keep our look and feel fresh.
  • You will work on both longerterm projects, such as campaigns, and projects with tight deadlines and exacting stakeholders.
  • You will need adaptability, as briefs and details can change, given the fastpaced nature of government.


It's a busy role but it's worth the challenge, as you will get to work on some of the most exciting projects at the heart of government - be it the future of nuclear energy, or major scientific investment and breakthroughs.

We have accessible design training available if you do not already have experience with this.


Skills and Experience

  • We're looking for a creative, enthusiastic selfstarters with strong technical expertise and an eye for design.
  • Experience working with high profile figures and/or journalistic experience will be helpful, although not essential.
  • You will be asked to provide several examples of work you have created yourself. We are looking for people who create content themselves if you are used to directing work but are not handson, this is not the role for you.
  • Technical skills: Adobe suite experience is essential, in particular Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Experience using a mirrorless camera is desirable.
  • Videography skills: story boarding, filming and editing video from concept to completion, adding Broll, subtitling and formatting for social media use. Creating content for a range of social media channels, including 19:6 Instagram reel videos.
  • Photography skills: able to use a range of camera equipment to shoot quality photos on visits and in a variety of locations. We can provide additional training if needed
