Job Purpose:


We are looking for an experienced Medical Underwriter to work within our Underwriting Standards team to help us deliver an outstanding service for our customers.


With an experience in medical underwriting and a recognised underwriting authority, (across Enhanced Annuities, Life, Income Protection or Critical illness), you will be involved in case underwriting and auditing alongside working with other members of the team to develop our underwriting processes and philosophies.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Ability to develop and review different underwriting philosophies and processes making necessary comments and changes
  • Ability to audit underwriting decisions and provide feedback
  • To undertake project works as required
  • As well as a strong technical background, you will also be able to demonstrate stakeholder management and communication skills, liaising with customer services, sales, reinsurance partners and medical officers
  • Proactive approach to your own learning and development is expected to ensure that Underwriting practices and skills are continually improved.

Desired Knowledge / Experience / Skills:

  • Experience of working within a medical underwriting team and making an accurate assessment of medical evidence gathered
  • Able to underwrite multiple product lines.
  • Understanding of underwriting manuals and processes.
  • Understanding of Enhanced Annuity and Protection products which require underwriting input.
  • Maintains underwriting knowledge with industry and market changes.
  • Inquisitive and Customer centric approach with an ability to think outside of the norm and challenge existing processes.
  • Ability to communicate with all types of customers and contribute to a team delivering service excellence.
  • Able to work to deadlines and manage own workload, prioritising cases when required
  • Completion or Progress towards Diploma in Life and Disability Underwriting or other industry recognised qualification (desired)
